MENTAL TRAINING PROCESS

  • Define performance and desired performance outcomes – determining, with leaders/performers, what is being influenced and how success will be measured.

  • Observe performance demands and current psychological approach to those demands. Establishing a baseline. This is part of a needs assessment.

  • Based on definition of performance, established goals, observed context and needs assessment, mental skills training designed and implemented.

  • Simulate performance demands or embed in military training for immediate application of mental skills.

  • Cycle is continual and doesn’t have to proceed linearly

  • Assessments are done throughout the process to continually evaluate effectiveness of the training protocol. At conclusion of a protocol, post intervention feedback (e.g., course results, pass rates, subjective experiences) is collected to assess overall effectiveness
